Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim: Journey through the Quran

Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim will share lessons from the various surahs in the Quran in a series of blogs that will enlighten our minds and nourish our souls.

The Quran is not a storybook of wondrous tales and ancient fables, isolated from the realities and complexities of real life. Each verse, in fact, each letter – is miraculously precise in meaning, succinct in message and pure in sound.

The life lessons that may be derived from the Quran are infinite. The more one contemplates it, approaching it with a sincere heart and giving it one’s full attention while recognising its magnificence, the more one’s heart connects with the Almighty.

Although it is impossible to articulate a translation that clearly establishes the majestic nature of the Quran in any language of the world, nevertheless, Muslims need to become more familiar with the overall coherence of its message in their native language.

During Taraweeh, myself and other Imams will lead the congregation in prayer, beginning on the first night with the opening chapter of the Quran and we finish it inshaAllah, before the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. This is a unique feature of Muslims that dates back to the era of the Prophet (SAW).

The aim of this series is to bring to the forefront what in reality is nothing more than a single drop from the ocean that is the Quranic paradigm. Our hope, through reading this summation, is to highlight key themes and messages of the Quran so that we may, inshaAllah, feel a connection with what we recite, hear and utilise in our prayers.

The Quran refers to a wealth of human experience, seeking to enrich our lives on earth before our eventual return to our Maker, the Most High.

The Prophet (SAW) was commanded to follow his righteous predecessors and take heed from their trials and inspiration from their eventual and divinely ordained triumph.

Allah, the Most High, instructs us to contemplate the final Word and benefit from its lessons and parables:

And We have certainly diversified in this Quran for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute. – Surah Al-Kahf [18:54]

I pray that the Quran remains a light for us in the darkness of excess and that it leads us to the moderate, straight path of righteousness. I pray that we practice it faithfully by day and busy ourselves with its recitation by night.

May Allah grant us its guidance and guide others to it through us.

In the next ‘Journey through the Quran’ blog, Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim will look at Al-Fatihaa & Surah al Baqarah. You can also catch Sheikh Yahya every Wednesdays on Salaam Britain.
