British Muslim Awards 2023 recognises positive impact on society

The 10th British Muslim Awards recognised the diversity and richness of British Muslims, honouring those who have made a positive impact on society.

The ceremony celebrated individuals and organisations from various sectors, including charity, sport, arts, culture, religious advocacy, and education.

Winners included individuals who have appeared on Islam Channel, including Man of the Year Amir Malik from the Muslim Golf Association; Areeb Siddiqui from Kestrl, who was named Creative Entrepreneur; and The Muslim Sports Foundation, who were awarded the Community Initiative of the Year.

Blackburn Rovers, winners of the Ihsan Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion at the Islam Channel Business Awards last year, were awarded the Spirit of Britain award.  

Aziz Foundation Scholar Awais Hussain, won ‘Young Achiever of the Year’. Aziz Foundation’s founder Asif Aziz was also winner at last year’s Islam Channel’s Business Awards.

Other winners at the British Muslims Awards included Online Personality of the Year Anisa Karolia, who said she was ‘humbled’ by her award.  

Journalist Shamim Choudhury received the Media Achievements of the Year award.

The British Muslim Awards is an annual event that celebrates the achievements and contributions of Muslims in various fields, from business and academia to arts and community service.

“The winners are true leaders who have inspired others, pushed boundaries, and achieved remarkable success in their respective fields. We would like to congratulate all winners and finalists.”

  • Religious Advocate of the Year: Maysoon Shafiq – Al Mu’Minin (Huddersfield)
  • Noor Inayat Khan Muslim Woman of the Year Award: Noushin Raja (Moonlight Trust)
  • Achievements in Law: Rabya Anwar – Keystone Law (London)
  • The Mohammed Sarwar Civil Service Award: Salman Desai – North West Ambulance Service (North West)
  • Achievements in Accounting & Finance: Mohammed Karolia – Bookkeepers of West Yorkshire (Batley)
  • Entrepreneur of the Year: Abu Nasir – GSV Sports Management (London)
  • Spirit of Britain: Blackburn Rovers FC (Blackburn)
  • Community Initiative of the Year: The Muslim Sports Foundation (London)
  • Small Business of the Year: Asif Kola Reality (Birmingham)
  • Man of the Year: Amir Malik – Muslim Golf Association (England)
  • One to Watch: Sveto Muhammad Ishoq – Chadari (London)
  • Leading Lights of the Year: Imran Akram – The Bipolar Lift CIC (Nottingham)
  • Dr Abbas Khan Services to Medicine Award: Muzzammil Nusrath – University Hospitals of Sheffield and Doncaster Hospitals (Sheffield)
  • Professional in Business: Waseem Nazir – Batley Law (Dewsbury)
