Global consultancy firms and football club nominated for supporting Muslims

Three of the largest accounting consultancies in the world, a global law firm and an English football club are among the shortlisted finalists for the Islam Channel Business Award, recognising how these companies go above and beyond to support their Muslim staff.

Professional services firms Deloitte, KPMG and EY are nominated in the new Ihsan category for excellence in diversity and inclusion, alongside law firm DLA Piper and EFL Championship title contenders Blackburn Rovers.

The Ihsan award, sponsored by WuduMate, recognises non-Muslim businesses that make Muslims feel genuinely welcome in the workplace.

EY’s Joanne Conway, UK Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusiveness, says: “We are delighted to be nominated for this prestigious award which recognises organisations who are creating inclusive work environments. We are striving to build a workplace where everyone feels like they belong.”

Blackburn Rovers CEO Steve Waggott said: “A huge privilege for us to be the only football club nominated in this category amongst four of the biggest accounting firms in the world.”

“It’s testament to our ethos as a football club and the work we’ve done to ensure our Muslim community, and Muslim football fans across the country, know they can enjoy the game they love as well as fulfil their religious requirements at Blackburn Rovers.”

The football club is well-known for engaging with its wider Muslims community in Blackburn; it provides a prayer room for fans and was the first British club to host Eid salat.

Islam Channel also announced the shortlisted finalists for its two other new categories; the Rising Star Business Award recognises companies founded since 2019 or born from the pandemic, while the Resilience Business Award acknowledges businesses that have shown resilience and innovation during the pandemic.

In partnership with Al Rayan Bank, the Islam Channel Business Awards will be held on November 18, celebrating Muslim achievements and contributions to business.
