Video: Muslim funeral for singer Sinead O’Connor

Sinead O’Connor, aka Shuhada Sadaqat, was buried as a Muslim after her tragic death at 56.

The Irish singer’s family gave her a private Muslim burial, but in accordance with traditional Irish customs, her coffin was first carried through her hometown in Ireland.

Thousands gathered to pay respects to the singer who converted to Islam in 2018. Famous musicians such as Bob Geldof and U2’s Bono were invited, including Muslims from the local community.

The Janazah was undertaken by Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri, the Imam from the Islamic Centre of Ireland.

He said Ireland had lost a “daughter”, describing her as an “incredible soul”.

“Today, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the Muslim funeral prayer for the daughter of Ireland, Sinéad O’Connor aka Shuhada Sadaqat,” said Shaykh Al-Qadri in a twitter post. “It is an honor to be part of this occasion, and I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the family for recognising and embracing her Muslim identity.”

Muslims sisters of Eire said they were also invited to the Janazah of the singer: “May Allah bless her with the highest level in Paradise.”
