PureGym CEO Humphrey Cobbold has drawn outrage and calls for a boycott after voicing his views on Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza during an appearance on the BBC’s Question Time.
As the British government faces intensifying pressure to halt arms exports to Israel, Cobbold’s stance on the issue sparked backlash online.
Here’s what he said
His remarks prompted an immediate uproar on social media, with many urging a boycott of the gym chain and saying they had cancelled their memberships over Cobbold’s comments.
.@PureGym – I have just cancelled my membership, I know of many others cancelling their membership today and many who will be cancelling and boycotting once word spreads. pic.twitter.com/i3o9kdlLEp

No idea why PureGym is even on this panel but it’s time to boycott them. Cancel your memberships. Tell your friends and family. https://t.co/vZOL1CQyPo

Some things are hard to boycott and I have sympathy for that, but it should not be hard at all to cancel your @PureGym membership if you have one.
Other gyms exist and let’s be real you only go in twice a month anyway.
Let’s be serious here. No excuses.
Boycott @PureGym.
